I am very grateful for the success of my family and for the opportunity to create my own personal success stories. I believe that if I had simply been born into the success that my family possesses today, I would not be nearly as appreciative as I am today. This experience of struggle in the first few years of my life provided me with another perspective on life. I realized early in life that nothing is handed to you. Everything that you want will only arrive through hard work, but I also learned that it is okay to ask for help along the way. There are so many people who are willing to help if you look in the right places.
So, personally, I think my religion, community and family have all contributed equally and positively towards the importance of social activism. They have all taught me that it is not only humane to aid others in their time of need, but also a necessary in today's society.
As far as what I have to offer to the world, I believe that I am a great leader. Even in a simple group project at work, I tend to take charge. I can also be a pretty good follower. When there is someone who obviously knows more or is more experienced with the task at hand, I can take a step back from a leadership position to learn from them. I enjoy learning new things and teaching others things that they never knew. I feel like I am a team player. I can play any position, just tell me where to stand and in any organization, group, or cause, I can be valuable.
You make a good point Janetta about if you are born in to success that you might not be as appreciative of things in life because you actually know what it takes to get to that part or chapter in your life. How do you think those who are born into a family with everything can go about helping people with the same insight that others have that do not grow up like them?
ReplyDeleteYou wanting to help others reach those chapters in their life is an amazing thing. However, if you are in a group and yes you can be a leader, or a follower when needed, but if you are in that followers position are you still going to speak up about what you believe?
