Smile

Many movements impact our lives, you could even say almost all. Do we notice it? When reading the reflection question, I found myself puzzled. What has impacted me? I feel that every single movement impacts us and our beliefs in ways and some so minimally that it passes by us unknown. The five that came to my mind first was, The Women's Rights movement allowing women the right to vote. The integration of blacks and whites in the school system. This impacted me because many of my friends are African American and without that I would be missing out on a huge piece of my friendship. The NCLB Act. This impacted me at a personal level with my cousin Wendy and how she has a great life because of her education. The laws on sexual harassment in the work force. I was sexually harassed at work and because of the laws in place I was able to stop that. Finally the women's roles in the work field, especially in teaching because this was back in history a primarily mens work.
Listening to other peoples stories is what life is about. It is about learning from others and their experiences. Our life values, actions, and beliefs are all impacted by the stories of others in our lives whom we encounter. If I had to tell one story about life it would be the story of my car accident. You are going thru the waves of live singing to your favorite song, when out of no where, when you feel completely safe... BAAAMMMM! You are shocked. No clue what to do you feel helpless, a loss of breath. Waiting for help and praying to God to help you through this. As help comes and God comforts you, you can see the pieces of the puzzle are being picked up. Healing with loved ones around you till you recover. Then realizing you are never going to be the same after this, but thats okay because you are a better person because of it is what life is all about.
Community involvement has been dear to my heart since I was little. I'm not sure why, and I don't have a specific life experience that convinced me to get involved. The one thing I do know however, is that I love to see people smile and be happy. I hope one day when I need a smile and some help, that others will be there to pick up my puzzle pieces. I do community service because I love SMILES.
My autobiography politically would all relate to getting the Lords name heard and sharing my life experiences to relate it to the Bible and Jesus. This hopefully would help people see Jesus and develop a deeper relationship with him.

  1. " Listening to other peoples stories is what life is about."

    And I couldn't agree more.

Having room for your own experiences is one thing, but taking time to listen and making from for other's experiences is what really matters and what really impacts the way we view the world around us. More often than that, people don't stop and take the time to just listen. If we did, it would make our lives so much easier.

And we would smile much more :)

  2. Listening to other peoples stories is definitely what life is all about. If we don’t listen to what other people have to say, how are we supposed to learn anything about the world out there that we don’t know about? And with things that don’t pertain to our life? I love that you say you do service because you love SMILES. You are always one to put a smile on anyone’s face no matter what kind of mood they are in. This is a great quality that you have and I hope that whenever there is a day when your feeling down that someone can help out in a little way just by making you smile. Sometimes people tend to forget it is the little things that make the biggest impact.
