Shhh Lets Listen!
When other people tell us stories we usually try to reach out and show sympathy or compassion for their story but how many times do you actually let their story change our life? In an earlier chapter Virginia Ramirez listened to a story from a elderly lady in her neighborhood and it impacted her life tremendously. Leob Wrote, "She responded to a particular human story, Which spurred her to rethink her own life." Have we ever re-thought our life becasue of a story we heared? Even if it may impact our lives so much that we want to change? I also liked when Leob wrote "we are more likley to challange homelessness if we hear the testimonies of people living on the street." I like this quote becasue it is very true, once we get a glimpse into other peoples lives we feel more compelled to help. We should want to help in the first place but once we start helping and vollunteering it is hard to stop because you see the impact you can have on many lives.
I havnt had many stories that made me change my life but im sure there will be many to come in my lifetime. There is one story that i can think of that made me think alot about how good i have it in the States. One day a man came to my school chapel to talk to our entire student body about how he had a life changing experience and how he had to literly flee from his home country Iran becasue he was Muslim, and in his particular city the Iraq government was invading and killing everyone. He made it to the states and found Christianity and now his parents disown him. He said that if he ever went back not only will his father try to kill him becasue he left but everyone he knew would. This story made me think how lucky i am to live in the Untited States where i can choose what religion i want to be and choose what i want to do with my life. This man didnt have those choices untill he came here, but if he would of stayed in Iran there is a good chance he wouldnt be breathing today. If i wouldnt of heard this story i wouldnt of known how how this part of the world felt during this time period and even today, it changed my perspective on how people live around the world and how lucky i am to live here.

We definitely take for granted how well we have it here in the United States. Like you said it really does take for someone to explain what its like in other parts of the world where they live in fear of being killed to realize how well off we are. So did this experience by chance kind of motivate you to help others that have it a little less fortunate? I think that hearing certain stories of people lives outside of the U.S. are definitely very moving and cause a lot of people to want to make a change in trying to get them out of there situation and bring them over into where they will be better off.
