In previous chapters, we read about political activist. One story mentioned a group of students listing some words to describe politcal activist: "Fantical," "Crazy," "Extremist," and "Troublemakers." Chapter 5 contradicts all these words, saying if it weren't for these people, for these visions and goals, we wouldnt be were we are today. Without leaders, I don't blieve we would have any sense of direction or anywhere to go; we would be frozen in continuing time.
Through the years of history our nation have been sculpted and changed for the best. The word free, once used to describe the foundation of the nation, now has a broader meaning.
1) The Human Rights Movement changed the nation for men and set the foundation for future movements. The rights movement gave attention to a "free" that was not so free.
2) The Women's Rights Movement changed the views men had for women and also changing families lives at home. Woman now have better jobs and possibly even higher paying than their husbands.
3) Religious freedom, in our country, lets us study the religion of our choice without the fear of being ridiculed and possibly killed.
4) Woman have won the right to education; years ago women would only be educated up to 8th grade and maybe even less. If it wasn't for the activist I wouldn't be sitting down writing this blog.
5) Finally, a big difference between then and now, is the slave trade. Women and men both won the right to freedom. Although the slave trade no longer exists we still sadly have modern day slavery. We don't always here about it, but, activist are fighting today for a change in the future.
Throughout the past century our nation has gone through changes and without those leaders and laws you mentioned, we wouldn't be here to help the change continue.
