Eeny Meeny Miny Mo

"You are such a great role model," says Kimi Butler. Kimi has at least five years on me so I find myself always going to advice from her until the day that she called me asking for advice. I was taken aback because she was the one looking for the guidance this time when I never thought it would happen. I always dubbed her as my role model and not me as hers, so it was a slight change of direction when she began to lift my actions up. She showed the areas of my life that were an inspiration for her. For example, my compassion for others and outgoing personality.

I want to implement these characteristics in my everyday life because I feel that when others are comfortable it makes them more open to learning and change. For example, when playing with the children at the church preschool will make them have fun and more apt to learn. I find the same to be true with young adults because the atmosphere is one where everybody is honest yet nurturing.

I found that when I was in high school I had a group of friends that didn't support my leadership skills and opportunities. I was spending the majority of my time deciding between being a part of the community or changing the community I live in. If I chose to make a change in my community, I would be alone but if I went to blend in I would be in the majority. It was a difficult choice until I realized that I needed to be the leader of my own thoughts and opinions.

I found that I still have a difficult choice sometimes but the more supportive my friends are, the more empowered I am to get involved.

  1. It took a lot of guts for you to stand up for what you believe in. Maybe I should come to you for advice. I think its great that you try to be so active in your community. You are an inspiration to a lot of people including me :D

  2. You have my support girlie!
I find everything that you do and become involved in to be highly inspirational, if not a little hectic. It is very selfless of you to give so much of your time to so many causes.
Like I've told you before, you are one of my biggest inspirations ever!

  3. Amber,

thank you for taking the opportunities that you are given to be a leader because your efforts do make a difference. Try not to think about on what scale you are weigting your efforts because to someone that you are helping it means 10 times more than what you may think it does.

Support may not be the easiest to find when you first begin your ventures; however, once you get started you begin to realize that you are not as alone as you thought you would be. :)
