Our Atmosphere Effects Us
“If we convince ourselves that nothing can change, we don’t have to risk acting on our dreams.” When I was living in Iraq, during the war, knowing that the circumstances would not change, or if change happened, it would be to the worse. It depressed my life as a whole. It discouraged me to continue studying and it discourage me to have a roll in the society. I remember that some clubs and organization encouraged on doing community service work, but people hold back. They don’t care, and they only worry if they’re going to make it alive up to tomorrow. Moreover, if I asked a person to come and help me work on a project that benefits our community, he or she would give me this respond: “I’m just a person that wants to live his life peacefully.” Almost everyone was desperate by the war, which caused them to give up.
I also have been through so many situations where sometimes my family would tell me, “So, you think you can do it? You think you can change the world by yourself?” That would reminds me how much small I am comparing to the world. Loeb is reflecting very good points and it’s very true, but sometimes reality forces us to convince ourselves to say we cannot do anything to change the state of affairs. And while I’m living in United States, I noticed how most people and committees admire community services. It surprised me and made me realize that our atmosphere might sometimes have an effect on our outcomes. This new atmosphere strengthened my thoughts toward reaching my dreams by having a position in our community no matter what obstacles or cynicism I will face. I think that I took my first real step towards helping the community when I joined slice; so, this program is causing every one of us to take a step forward and to make a change. :)

When I read about you living in Iraq during the war I was surprised because it is a very touchy subject to even discuss. I think it is very difficult to look at the good in a situation such as a war but the fact that you are able to continue to get involved in your community after observing such an emotional experience shows perseverance.
